STRIVE FOR EXPRESSION NOT PERFECTION
My work stems directly from my years growing up in Kenya, east Africa. My Father was South African and my Mother is English. My childhood and schooling in rural Kenya gave me my love of pattern, I see it everywhere. I went to Art College in London and completed a Illustrative Arts degree , at College I won the Illustration & Printmaking prizes. My Teaching Certificateis from Sheffield. For the last ten years I have lived in Spain, first in Andalusia and now on the Costa Blanca. Living here has enriched my pattern obsession. I love the strength that black and white images give , drawing and printmaking are passsions. As a technique lino is fabulous, strong, bold, fun, with the added advantage that it can be as simple or as sophisticated as each individual wants it to be. The prints are in limited editions printed no more than 25 of each design on hand made paper or recycled card. I have fused the drawing and lino process and now draw and carve the lino directly on location, from a primary source, this gives a very immediate response to my surroundings and what I see. This is not a sophisticated well planed way to work and mistakes happen - I like this, its exciting and definatly a method that I will develop, hopefully doing some larger pieces this year. My work is in collections in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Canada, Spain and France. I have been involved in solo, joint and group exhibitions and am always happy to collaborate with other printmakers - Exhibitions in Spain - Art Solo Gallery Costa Blanca, Leeson Street Costa Blanca, Studio El Gecko,Granada, Global Present, Barcelona, Motril Cultural Centre, Granada Coast.
